TATTOO AFTERCARE
Proper aftercare is essential to ensure your ink heals beautifully and lasts a lifetime. Follow these four essential steps to protect your new artwork and avoid complications.
1
Healing with Second-Skin Bandages (Saniderm / DermShield)
These breathable, medical-grade wraps are designed to protect your tattoo while allowing it to heal in a clean, low-maintenance environment.

-
Leave the wrap on for 3–5 days.
-
The wrap is water-resistant, not waterproof—quick showers are fine, but avoid soaking or swimming.
-
Remove early if you notice:
-
A large ink sac or fluid buildup under the wrap
-
Redness, irritation, or itchiness around the edges
-
Leaks or peeling that break the seal
-
-
Remove by pulling gently at the edges of the wrap under lukewarm running water and then cleansing gently with mild, fragrance free antibacterial soap. Remove all excess bandage residue.
-
After removing continue aftercare for the following 2 weeks.
2
Cleanse Gently, Moisturize Consistently
Cleaning your tattoo removes bacteria, excess ink, and plasma, helping prevent infection and promoting healthy healing.
-
Wash your hands before touching your tattoo.
-
Gently cleanse the area with lukewarm water and a mild, liquid fragrance-free antibacterial soap. Use your fingertips—never scrub.
-
Pat dry with a clean paper towel or let it air dry. Avoid cloth towels, which can harbor bacteria.
-
Once dry, apply a thin layer of tattoo-safe ointment or fragrance-free lotion. Your skin should feel hydrated, not greasy.
-
Repeat this process 2–3 times daily for the first week.
Avoid: Over-moisturizing, petroleum jelly, or scented products that can irritate the skin or clog pores.
3
Shield From Sun & Water
Healing tattoos are vulnerable—treat them like fresh wounds.

-
Keep your tattoo out of direct sunlight. UV rays can fade ink and irritate healing skin.
-
Avoid swimming pools, hot tubs, lakes, and baths for at least 2–3 weeks. Submerging your tattoo can introduce bacteria and cause ink loss.
-
Showering is fine—just keep it brief and avoid high-pressure water directly on the tattoo.
Tip: Once the tattoo is healed, use sunscreen to preserve vibrancy.
4
Let It Heal Naturally
Itching and flaking are normal—don’t interfere.

-
Do not scratch, pick, or peel your tattoo, even if it itches.
-
Scratching can cause scarring, ink loss, or infection.
-
Wear loose, breathable clothing to avoid friction and irritation.
Watch for: Excessive redness, swelling, pus, or prolonged pain—these may be signs of infection. Contact your artist or a healthcare provider if concerned.
